The Indonesian Journal of International Relations (IJIR) is a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on issues in international relations at both regional and global levels. The journal covers a wide array of topics related to international relations, particularly those involving Indonesia or analyses from Indonesia’s perspective, aiming to enrich the existing body of research in the field.

As the official journal of the Indonesian Association for International Relations (Asosiasi Ilmu Hubungan Internasional Indonesia/AIHII), IJIR is supported by all association members and represents a collaborative effort among scholars of international relations in Indonesia. The journal serves a broader purpose that extends beyond any specific International Relations (IR) study program or university, effectively representing the community of IR scholars in Indonesia. It provides a platform for sharing ideas and offers valuable references for scholars, researchers, students, practitioners, and general readers interested in Indonesia's role on the global political stage and its relations with other countries. Its goal is to publish high-quality articles that contribute to academic discourse and inform policy-making through solid theoretical and empirical research.

IJIR does not adhere to any particular school of thought, methodology, or restriction limiting submissions to Indonesian scholars alone. It welcomes a diverse range of articles, covering topics such as diplomacy and foreign policy, strategic and international security, global political economy, international development and cooperation, as well as gender and environmental issues in international relations.

Since 2020, the International Journal of International Relations (IJIR) has been accredited with a SINTA 4 rating, as per the decision of the Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, No. 177/M/KPT/2024 regarding the Scientific Journal Accreditation Ranking for the second period of 2024.
